Silke Steinmöller (PhD) is a senior scientist with the Julius Kühn-Institut (JKI), Federal Research Centre for Cultivated Plants in Germany, working in this role since 2003. She studied horticulture, specialising on plant pathology early in her studies. Her professional career started with research on quarantine pests on potato, with a primary focus on potato wart disease.
At the Institute of National and International Plant Health, her work focused on pest risk analysis, export dossiers and, for six years, planning and analysis of surveillance activities on EU quarantine pests in Germany. No longer in the laboratory, her work continues to be focused on management inquiries. In 2022, she was part of the International Advisory team on Prince Edward Island for the management of potato wart disease.
