Technical Tours take place on Thursday 29th and Friday 30th October 2026.

Tour bookings are made as part of the registration process

All Tours depart from Sawela Lodges on Thursday 29^th October – only one tour option may be chosen

Tours do not return to Naivasha, all luggage to be stored on the coach for the duration of the tour.

Tours 1, 2A, 2B and 2C terminate at Jomo Kenyatta Airport Nairobi circa 7pm on Thursday 29^th October.

Tours 3A, 3B, 3C and 3D terminate at Jomo Kenyatta Airport Nairobi between 5pm and 6pm on Friday 30^th of October.

Return times are estimates only and will depend on road conditions and traffic, please allow ample time for check-in as return journeys can often be delayed.

The annual Farmer Field Day is the biggest potato specific event in Kenya. The event includes certified demos featuring multiple agro-input companies, climate smart agriculture training and mechanization demos including land preparation, planting, harvesting and sorting. The Farmers Field Day will bring together 1,000+ farmers supported through WPC 2026 bursary program alongside a wide range of potato value chain stakeholders from across East Africa.

The field day provides an opportunity for farmers to meet with various companies that play a crucial role in the agricultural sector, the field day is not just an event but a significant step toward agricultural excellence. The field day provides a platform for knowledge sharing, innovation and collaboration, all aimed at enhancing the productivity and sustainability of potato farming in Kenya.

On arrival delegates can visit the the wide range of demo plots on offer and will also get the opportunity to tour the show and experience the full field day atmosphere. Lunch will also be provided for all WPC delegates on site before transfer to Nairobi National Airport

This tour will bring delegates from the congress venue to Nairobi, capital of Kenya, for a tour of the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) and the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) lab facility, followed by a trip to the manufacturing facility of Norda Industries, producer of the Urban Bites potato crisp brand.

KALRO was founded as part of the Kenyan government’s efforts to restructure the National Agricultural Research System, ensuring a dynamic, innovative, and well-coordinated approach to agricultural and livestock research. KALRO is committed to driving agricultural transformation in the country in tandem with Kenya’s Vision 2030. This plan emphasizes value addition in agriculture and livestock to enhance rural household incomes as well as developing and promoting technologies that improve productivity, sustainability and resilience in the agricultural sector. KEPHIS was established in 1996 to assure plant health, quality of agricultural inputs and produce towards a food secure nation and safe trade. It has a vision of excellence in plant health and quality assurance in agriculture. It’s mandate includes regulating matters relating to plant protection, seeds and plant varieties along with regulating import and export of plants and plant materials. Norda Industries Limited is a Fast-Moving Consumer Goods company based in Nairobi Kenya, specializing in the manufacturing of high-quality snacks and confectionary items for the East African region. Founded in 2008, a key part of their organization involves sourcing raw materials locally through smallholder farmers across Kenya to ensure supply of quality potatoes for their crisps.

Some cultural highlights in Nairobi include Nairobi National Museum, which provides a fantastic voyage through Kenya’s rich history, wildlife and culture. Some of the highlights for visitors include the Hall of Kenya which house paleontological discoveries and stone age tools and the Mammals Gallery featuring the Big Five and skeletons of dolphins and whales.

It is home to lions, cheetahs, rhinos, giraffes, zebra and hippos and is a pioneering park in wildlife conservation. The Hanna Roses facility at Kevian Kenya Limited is a licensed plant and flower growing company that is based in Thika Kenya, specializing in growing of cut flowers for export. In addition, seeing the growing demand, the farm has recently increased the production of certified potato seeds to enter the market for certified potato seeds. The National Potato Council is one of the farm’s major buyers, who then distribute the seed product to farmers across Kenya. This technical tour option allows delegates to choose any of the technical tour 2 options selections for the Processor and Research Sites and also include an overnight stay in Nairobi on Thursday 29th October followed by a trip to Nairobi National Park on Friday 30th October.

All delegates who sign up for technical tour 2 will visit both the KALRO and KEPHIS Muguga sites before splitting into three groups to visit either Urban Bites Crisp Processor, Krackles Crisp Processor or the Hanna Roses / Kevian Biotech Laboratory. Choosing this overnight option will provide delegates with the opportunity to visit Nairobi National park the following day.

This technical tour will bring delegates west, from the congress venue to the Nakuru region, for a tour of the Sereni Fries Ltd processing site followed by a visit to the Farmer Field Day hosted by Freshcrop and from there, an overnight stay in Nakuru with a game drive in Nakuru National Park on Friday 30^th October. A transfer to Jomo Kenyatta National Airport on Friday evening will allow delegates to reach international flights .

Sereni fries is a pioneer and leader in the processing of high quality and safe frozen and fresh cut potato products. It is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya with three branches in Naivasha, Nakuru and Mombasa. Sereni has been processing potatoes for over 10 years by buying Irish ware potatoes from small and medium scale farmers, processing the potatoes into fresh and precooked potato products of different cuts and sizes for distribution across the B2B and B2C market in Kenya. Over 50 mammal species call Lake Nakuru home, and the adjoining Lake Nakuru National Park is a great destination to see black and white rhinos, as well as Cape buffalo, African wild dog, zebra, eland, waterbuck, and lion. The large frequency of leopard sightings and the rare Rothschild’s giraffe have made Nakuru famous in recent years.

Baboons, Impalas, colobus monkeys, hyenas, zebras, gazelles, and pythons are also among the abundance of wildlife here. This is sure to be a thrilling adventure for all tour participants!

This technical tour will bring delegates west, from the congress venue to the Nakuru region, for a tour of the Stokman Rozen facility followed by a visit to the Farmer Field Day hosted by Freshcrop and from there, an overnight stay in Nakuru with a game drive in Nakuru National Park on Friday 30^th October. A transfer to Jomo Kenyatta National Airport on Friday evening will allow delegates to reach international flights .

Stokman Rozen, based in Naivasha, was established in 1994 and is currently the largest rose topgraft propagator in Africa, producing about 7 million topgrafts annually. To facilitate the grafting process used in making young rose plants, Stokman Rozen Kenya also grows its own rootstock.. Stokman Rozen is leading in the multiplication of pathogen free tissue culture plants and then growing them in greenhouse beds in a substrate. Apical cuttings are taken to produce more mother plants and when the quantity is sufficient, apical cuttings are taken and rooted in trays for sale to customers. Itinerary & Safari Extension

Day 1 (Field Day & Nakuru Transfer): Delegates arrive on-site to explore demo plots, tour the exhibition, and experience the full Field Day atmosphere. After lunch, the group will transfer to Nakuru for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2 – Friday, 30th October (Lake Nakuru Game Drive & Airport Transfer):

Set out on a morning game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park. Home to over 50 mammal species, the park is famous for its high frequency of leopard sightings, the rare Rothschild’s giraffe, black and white rhinos, Cape buffaloes, lions, zebras, and diverse wildlife from colobus monkeys to pythons.

Evening Departure: Following the game drive, delegates will be transferred directly to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi on Friday evening in time for international flights.
